Chapter Sixteen

“Keya?”

She looked up from the computer screen to see Lacrae leaning on the edge of the door.

“Yeah?”

“Are you okay?” He walked into the room and made his way to her desk. She had gone missing thirty minutes ago, and he started to worry. After all this bullshit that had been going on lately, Lacrae and Nexus were keeping a close eye on Nyceah and Lakeya. They refused to lose anyone else.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

“Well, since we lost our phones, we haven’t been able to contact anyone. I decided to contact a few people back home. I sent a few emails and read a few.” She stopped talking and pulled her hair into a ponytail, and then folded her legs beneath her. “After everything that just happened, I needed something to keep my mind busy.”

Lacrae sat at the desk next to her. His back was to the computer. His eyes were already hurting from the lack of sleep. The last thing he needed was to stare at a computer screen. “Yeah. I know. This shit’s a lot.”

“It really is. This has made me thankful for the life we used to have. I will never complain about my babies ever again.”

“I know, right. Easily, we forget the beautiful lives that we have until tragedy strikes.”

Lakeya felt like crying, but she was literally cried out at the moment. Every time her eyes watered up, she got a horrible migraine. “You know, sometimes, I catch myself wondering why I haven’t heard the babies crying or playing. When I remember they aren’t here, I get mad and…”

“Listen, I don’t want you to worry. We’re going to find the babies and they are going to be fine when we do.”

“Two days ago, I had my babies with me. Now, I feel so empty. I would give anything just to see their tiny faces once again.”

“We’re going to find them, babe. I promise you that shit, on my muthafuckin’ life. The babies are going to come back to us alive and well.”

“Don’t promise shit you can’t keep.”

“I’m telling you what I know. In my heart of hearts, they are all fine and they will be home very soon.”

Lakeya’s eyes shifted to the computer as a tab opened. “Ssssshhhh,” she shushed Lacrae. Her brows instantly pulled together as her eyes scanned the screen.

“What is it?” Lacrae questioned, turning back towards the computer to see what captured her attention.

“Emails.” She eased forward, wondering if she was seeing things correctly.

“What?” Lacrae asked impatiently.

“I can’t believe this.”

“Your ass better say what it is before I start busting my gun.”

“Okay, Crae, damn. Hold on. I just wanted to make sure I was seeing things correctly. It’s an email from Tysen.” Her badly in need of a manicured nail pointed to the screen so that he could see what she was talking about.”

“This nicca can’t be that fuckin’ stupid. He really emailed you.”

Lacrae hopped up, standing over Lakeya as she maneuvered the mouse over the email. She clicked and the email from Tysen opened.
